Assigned Freelance at Birth is a podcast created by J Luce and Jessica Jewell aimed at sharing the stories of the women and non-binary folk working on the technical aspect of live events. The first episode includes an interview with Kylie Heringer, a female sound engineer with about 10 years of experience working in the Denver music scene. She discusses her background in music and how she got into live sound engineering. Kylie talks about her positive experiences working with male mentors and sound engineers in Denver, as well as the challenges she faced as one of the few women in the field, including facing discrimination, sexual assault, and microaggressions. Despite the difficulties, her love for the work and the support from the music community kept her going. She offers advice for aspiring female engineers on getting opportunities, being personable, and persevering.
